I'm a little confused as to why you say that, because there are several threads that it seems like the author has set up to tug on later:

Real Aoi's backstory and her connection to the current story
Robot Aoi's backstory and why she's seemingly self-aware
Everything surrounding Isaku
Ami's little flashback on the train

As far as I can tell, we're very much still in the setup phase of whatever the story is going to focus on, but it definitely seems like it's going to focus on something and not just be a slice-of-life.
