kaede is kinda a scumbag ngl, i probably wouldve liked her more had it not been made clear that makoto handles most of the housework, thereby creating an environment which allows her to focus on her work, and gets paid back with literal dirt in terms of acknowledgement- let alone affection. all the times she lashes out at him because shes just so busy with work feel worse in retrospect of this as well. they'd have a more equitable relationship if he were her maid, the fact that he also works full time and his domestic labor and contributions are entirely uncompensated just make the entire arrangement more bitter.
I really dont think shes redeemed herself from that scene where Makoto reveals that he's sick, and all she says is that he should stay away from her, as she doesnt want to catch his cold. like i kept expecting her to reveal hidden depths of affection towards makoto, which she ultimately never showed. she remained fairly one note until this chapter, even her relevation of love for makoto constitutes nothing more than a basic acknowledgement that he doesnt impede her work- despite his having supported her and their household for the majority of her career.
i mean even if kaede isnt the best at interpersonal relationships, she couldve at least used the bare minimum of empathy and consideration to realize that, if nothing else, makoto also probably enjoyed having free time, and wouldve appreciated her using the career advancement which hes facilitated in a thousand different ways to pay for regular household help. as things are shes basically just a genderbent version of his dad, but even the most emotionally constipated workaholic husbands give their wives lip service in front of other people, and she really doesnt tend to acknowledge makoto exists when he isnt physically present or about to ask for a divorce. like at least buy him a designer bag as an anniversary present or something, ask your subordinate to buy a perfume she thinks hed like for his birthday, damn.
