Can't really blame Asahi completely for that. Hinako has shut him down unintentionally many times, starting way back in the canon pre-serialization when she called him a Younger Brother. Every time he starts to believe she says or does something stupid that reinforces his negative thoughts.

o) Invited Asahi to the aquarium but when asked by Tsukko (who butted in) why she invited Asahi but not her chickened out and said she thought Asahi invited her, dealing even more emotional damage
