Mythos wise you are correct. In anime and manga, Succubus and Incubus are usually not the same being if there is a incubus at all in the manga and/or anime. Normally in manga and anime succubus are just girls.

'Cause if we go with the original demonology, incubi and succubi are different things that can't shapeshift at all. That's why they have different names.

And if we go with modern interpretations, the abilities of succubi are entirely up to the author.
