Just to make a case for Anilist being supported here, if you're still pondering, this month alone almost 900 new manga were added to the database (see graph).
Most new manga added to Mangadex are added to Anilist on the same day, or at most a few days later since submissions are approved pretty fast (usually no more than a week after the initial submission).
And even manga that have not been translated are constantly added. Over 100 new serials are released in Japan per month and a lot of them are added to the database each month.
I think it's safe to say that, compared to MAL, who have over 5,000 submissions waiting for approval, some dating back years, Anilist is at least more responsive to community submissions and cares about maintaining their manga database, especially with newer stuff, and I think it'd be totally fair to have them as a supported link when MAL also gets one

MyAnimeList for comparison's sake (link to a thread keeping track of approvals/rejections on MAL's manga database)
Though they haven't kept track recently, in December only about 15 new manga were added to MAL.
So while MAL does have more total manga (about 46,500) they barely add anything per month, and this happens consistently every month. Basically the major reason they have more total numbers is because they have been around for much, much longer, but it's clear that nowadays they hardly care about keeping their manga database up to date, and I think within months, maybe a year or two at best, they will be overtaken by Anilist and even possibly other sites as well if they care enough.
