Ok good, so him downplaying himself isn't meant to be some stupid overly humble type thing, and he actually went through something that ruined his self worth.

Dude should grow some balls and take charge of his own life. Stop letting your students be the ones who push you to make a decision man, youre grown as fuck
You're gonna regret saying this if the story comes up with a really good reason. 😛
If it's bad, which is more likely since this is a fanservice series, then yeah, I am gonna be miffed about it.

Nah I wont regret my words, ill just be happy to have some actual reasoning for why he acts the way he does. I just hope the future payoff is greater than the fleeting annoyance I feel in the present y'know what I mean?

I mean it seems pretty obvious that something happened in his past that caused him to become disillusioned by his previous status. The brief info from flashbacks we've gotten (while vague) indicate some fucked up shit was going on with the monsters he was teaching or monsters like them. Now whether those flashbacks happened before or after he opened up the school remains to be seen though logically it would make more sense that he opened the school specifically because he saw how they were being treated and wanted to give back to alleviate his guilt a bit.

The real question at this point is whether he simply learned of the horrific shit that was being done or if he was in some way part of the cycle. Like maybe he was tasked with subduing monsters for experiments and he didn't realize what they were doing until after he had already used his status as a Hero to clear swathes of them out. Both would lead to him damning his Hero status and calling himself a "simple Biology teacher" since he doesn't want to be attached to the title anymore.

Finally, again the main point of interest that is kind of being handwaved away is that Monster Girls are highly regarded and people treat them like celebrities/exceptional individuals. It is heavily HEAVILY implied that Washio's school for monsters was a key component for the reason Aria and Claudia became enlightened. Either that or both of them are monsters he rescued from a lab and the experiments being done on them were part of the process but that seems a bit too cynical (basically an ends justify the means scenario) for what is seemingly a feel good manga with some angst. Assuming the former though, that means Washio would be a person of great interest to the powers that be if they knew the monster girls at the school were his former students while they were monsters. This could be another reason why he's avoiding standing out and climbing the ranks since it would draw more attention to his involvement. On the other hand, if the experiments are still being done in an effort to make more monster girls then he could use his influence and knowledge to stop them and promote a more nurturing system.

There is a lot of potential for an interesting story here so hopefully the author doesn't fuck it up and drag his feet for too long. From the standard Isekai tropes it is nice to see a situation where the protagonist isn't either harping on about how bad the regressive behavior of the underdeveloped civilization is (ie. Slavery is bad! I'm a good guy because I say it's bad constantly!) while also still lamenting that it exists and he's powerless to do anything about it instead of actively engaging in it (ie. Welp, Slavery is just part of the culture here so when I buy my 5 sex slave wives and bone them constantly while they can't protest it isn't a bad thing!). Washio's attitude is actually relatively realistic given he's up against a monumental task and is only a single person; you can't expect him to change the world no matter how strong he is. That would render most people pretty empty inside.

A good way to make the professor more likable is giving us a reason for his self deprecation but knowing these stories he's just like this or the event wasn't even that bad :aquadrink:
( oh someone already commented the same thing )

Claudia encouraged Washio to make a decision because she cared about him. There's nothing wrong with that.
And she understood that the guy she fell for was still there, needing a little push (or an enormous shove) to be awakened. I think this will be one of the major themes here: the girls aren't just crushing on the older guy who left a cool impression on them as impressionable kids, they are legitimately in love with him and want to support him as equals in life. That he's their teacher isn't even relevant to that.

[WAIFUOS]: Settings updated. Unit added to Harem.
I think I need to put that name down in my notes. :meguupog:

It's "technically" possible now to create an Waifu OS with some fine tuned AI (well, if you have the resources to build, train and run it locally)
But it's always better to write a Waifu Kernel first to make her have emotions.

So I get wanting to have your character have a traumatic story that causes them to struggle in the here and now, but holy hell, you gotta clue us in earlier about what’s going on otherwise you end up here. We, the audience, don’t know why he’s like this. The other characters in the audience don’t know why he’s like this. We’ve reached a funny point where we are sympathizing with the monster girls because, like them, we’re confused and frustrated as fuck with the MC. I don’t like it. We’re on chapter 15 and we don’t have any of the backstory that’s been hinted at. 15 chapters. That’s longer than some entire series.

Fuck outta here with this weakass characterization of the MC, make me feel something other than frustration.

Low self-esteem is normal. I can relate to that. I don't mind if he is reluctant aand doubts himself. He has students that cares about him. If anyone can make him grow more confident, it's them

Thank God for Claudia. Would've been too sad to leave the robot (waifu) there alone.

It's kinda annoying how they're always like "Washio-sensei, you're awesome, do this thing" and he's like "No, I can't, it's impossible" and internally he's like "I'm just totally garbo (despite clearly being super powerful), it's too bad but I'm just an ordinary biology teacher" and then the girls are like "No, seriously, do it" and he's like "Okay then". If he really has been traumatized, how's he so easily convinced? Kinda shitty writing, tbh.
