With the track record of this manga, wouldn't be surprised if it has actual NTR.This arc fucking sucks, next few chapters are actually ragebait
"what are you gonna do, stab me?"Hey guys you know those kids who could murder us on complete accident... We should purposely piss them off and make fun of them... Kids are dumb
To be fair we have been given glimpses here and there that there's something more serious behind it, but it was always just a bit too vague to really give a sense of what exactly is going on. Whether that's an issue of the author unable to capture the pacing right in his visual art or an issue of the author being unable to pace it right in storyboard, though, I don't know. It's not so much wishywashy with its plot as it is its tone. We actually have a pretty clear backstory for our man here. Got Isekaid as a 20-something, was the legendary magical mage of magic and the fated hero of all time, but then saw some sort of experimentation on monsters happening and did something to stop it. We don't know what. He then took the monsters that were experimented on away, taught them basic skills, and then left. We don't know why. He's now working as what amounts to an adjunct professor at a magic college when he was supposed to be the great hero of legend, because he left all that behind him.
It's very mid-life crisis, in a way. The guy looks back at his life and thinks he wasted his shot. He gave up his chance at fame and fortune. But the monster girls come into his life, and they're the strange creatures he threw away his life for 20 years ago. His life wasn't a waste. He mattered to people.
What's interesting/frustrating here is that we're seeing the fallout of events we know happened, but don't know much else. We didn't see what happened in the research facility, so we don't know how we should react to this information aside from vague doubt. Is this a past sin he's been running from, where he really did kill everyone in there and take the monsters, so he's felt conflicted? Is this a secret that shouldn't be out, because the idea of doing the experiments we saw is not something that anyone aside from a few should know about? Was he exiled and stripped of rank, or was he on the run? We don't know, and we're 28 chapters in and it has not mattered so we certainly didn't think it'd be vital information that'd seriously change the context.
So it's annoying, cause this is a core plot point that has just been ignored up until right this second. If the monster research thing was actually a big deal, we should've been aware that the existence of the monster girls and the fact that they came to see him was going to be a serious problem instead of the delayed reward for a good deed that its felt like.
If so, seems to be the pretty common setup of "author wants to tell HIS story, editor says write THIS story, author writes it so it looks like it's THIS story as cover for HIS story". Personally, though, I think the author does like cute monster girls, but also likes old men, and wants to tell both stories, but isn't doing a good job with the pacing (so far).Guess the author is finally gonna stop the pretense that this is about cute monster girls doing cute things.
When in reality, the real story the author seems to want to focus on is the protag's depression and lack of self-esteem.
The girls are just bait eye-candy so readers stay.
Didn't he also accept that sus alchemy teacher's help about getting the monster girls from Washio? How much of this plot was he filled in on? If he agreed to all of this, then his confusing tsundere act has just fallen short and revealed how much of a pos he is, and we still have no idea what the alchemy teacher's game is for reeling him in and how he's somehow involved with the dragon girl who's just a pos to everyone around her, including Washio. They know about his past and that he's OP. Aria even specifically mentions how Washio is underselling himself and knew it was him who saved the people from the burning building when Aria was introduced. As for the other teachers, they likely don't know that Washio is the former legendary hero but from this chapter we can glean that the principal does know because he had the same concerned/shocked expression as Washio did when the mention of his past "crimes" were laid bare.
It also makes sense that the principal would know to explain how Washio got the job at a seemingly prestigious school despite being F ranked (as the elf prick constantly reminds us of) which would likely never happen unless the principal had insider knowledge about Washio's true pedigree. We may learn from the following chapters how they have a connection and they may be old friends or something of the sort.
I think the Elf teacher may be one of the ones who comes to Washio's defense. He's a smug prick but he does have a bizarre fixation on Washio and did actually offer to let him sleep in his room (granted on the balcony but he fixed it up so it would be comfortable) when Washio was evicted. His motivations aren't entirely clear currently and from his behavior it just seems like he's a Tsundere who wants Washio's respect but he goes about it in a manner similar to a young schoolboy teasing his crush in attention seeking behavior.
It is so dumb truly, characters who have literally ALL the power (and I dont mean brute strength) to dominate the situation and they get dominated with idiotic mind games, “oh you are dissing our savior?, sure, Im leaving this academy, and I’ll let all know what you do here, good luck with the BS afterwards.” Such a simple solution, but we go that annoying way for the sake of story development and plot.So does the school want the monster girls or not? I thought they made it clear that they only want MC as their teacher. The constant disrespect to their choice of teacher and to MC himself should’ve been enough to leave, but now this??
Ah yes! Let’s suspend the only teacher they want to listen to and suspend THEM for defending the slander against him.
Story arcs like this make me forget why I’m reading this series in the first place.
