Yeah, it's definitely confusing. It seems like she's acting as a double agent, but whether she's under Julius's control or just faking it remains to be seen. Maybe the effect has worn off, or maybe she's developed some resistance. In chapter 30, the author went out of their way to highlight her eye in this creepy scene—as if she were under his control:

Whatever the case, I believe Julius knows exactly what she's doing and is just pretending not to, so he can enjoy the moment he reveals it to her and watches her fall into despair. I can almost see him launching into another cringe-inducing monologue when he finally lets her know.

I understand why people are pissed off at this manga at the moment. This arc really has that NTR doujinshi vibe. The "main heroines" being "stolen away" from the protagonist by a "handsome" villain and the protagonist being portrayed as a total c*ck loser.
I hardly doubt this is unintended by the author. He knows what he's doing, so he better not complain when backlash comes his way.
