I get she’s embarrassed by her parents (we all are; all the time), but she has to be self-aware. She’s only making things harder on herself by acting so strange just because they’re there.

She has warped self perspective because of her experiences. So it’s hard to be self aware when you’re filtering through lived experience

Rereading and this remains a fav scene. A neat moment is her mom attempting to disrupt Tabata's disordered eating. She doesn't often do this, but Mom is always there to tell her to enjoy eating.
