People act like he's in the wrong.
He's being responsible and learning to work his feelings around as much as she is.
In this chapter, and some others, we saw that, naturally, he also feels attraction towards her.
He just doesn't want to derail both of their lives.

Good for him to stand up for himself.

It is especially nice to see male characters have these boundaries around sex. A dude can also decide what he wants to do or not in his romantic relationship.
