Maybe I phrased my first comment badly, we're probably not talking about the same thing.
I'm taking the trope of hiding porn under the bed to mean a minor or young adult living with his parents and yet choosing to use physical media porn which has to be hidden.

Even after Comiket, where do you think those doujinshi book go? They become available via online or if it's from a rather popular author, they can put it into your local bookstore unofficially. Like how you put your homemade crackers to your local restaurant. How many people actually go to comiket though ? First, it allows the authors to introduce a character subservient to the protagonist without said protagonist doing anything to earn said subservience.Arrogant? More like cheekily committed to staying in character.
In many of those slave girl stories, the slaves don't act like slaves and/or the MC doesn't treat them like slaves, while other characters also rarely acknowledge the difference in status, making you wonder why this is even a plot point in the first place.
This isn't a big issue in most stories because usually all takes for a girl to follow the MC through fire and flames is to do something nice for her once, like saving her from some creeps.First, it allows the authors to introduce a character subservient to the protagonist without said protagonist doing anything to earn said subservience.
Hiring a servant or companion for a week or a month should be cheaper than buying a whole person. That's one of the reasons why slavery has been phased out in most places by now. And many MCs pay an arm and a leg for their slaves in the first place. It could work just as well had said character been hired help, for instance, but that'd limit the authors in writing the protagonists' circumstances (a poor adventurer can't afford a full-time live-in maid, for instance).
It still takes 25 chapters to go from that to cohabitation, while with slaves that's a done deal. This isn't a big issue in most stories because usually all takes for a girl to follow the MC through fire and flames is to do something nice for her once, like saving her from some creeps.
That is usually handwaved away by the slave being starved, belonging to a racial minority, or being in some other way undesirable.Hiring a servant or companion for a week or a month should be cheaper than buying a whole person.
