Well yeah no shit, if you weren’t a misogynistic ass and called Catarina back earlier you could have given them the last few years together if not the rest of their lives, since Bona might not have gotten sick. It’s sad and disgusting how Cat’s poor mom was forced away from her baby and immediately pressured to pump out a boy. Not to mention both Catarina and Gimo lost a mother and each other because of her ass dad’s self centered-ness.
Catarina and Sofia are basically a reflection of what Arte could have been. They’re noble ladies controlled and silenced by their familial obligations.
The reason why Yuri chose Arte is because she’s a noble and a woman, yet unlike Catarina and Sofia she was lucky enough to find supporters and opportunities, and strong enough to grab them. She had the guts to defy her mother and push through others’ judgement, unlike Catarina who’s essentially given up and resigned to balling everything up inside. Yuri chose Arte because he wants her to give Catarina that push to be honest with herself and others, to show everyone how much she loves cooking.
In any case, don’t know why people are complaining about more backstory when other series are painfully lacking it.

Arte was lucky enough to have a supportive dad and an open-minded mentor. I guess Catarina is supposed to show what happens when you only have the latter.
