Out of curiosity, when mangaka's use foreign words like this with kanij that mean something else, do you happen to know whether it's an intentional stylistic choice, or the author butchering the translation?

They used it intentionally/stylistically. Sorta 'write it this way and read it that way'. Most notable example is Accelerator from Index written as 'one way road/ippoutsukou' in kanji and yet always referred as Accelerator using furigana iirc when I looked at the LN raws

@seekermoc Most of the time, it's a stylistic choice. The furigana/ruby is what the character is actually speaking, and the kanji is what they mean by it.
In this case, it was to give it a second meaning. This was explained some chapters back. "Blumen Blatt" — Which would be "Flower Petal", or "Flower Garden" — is what they call the units at St. Frideswide. Those units do everything together, from studies to tea parties, and so they develop "sisterly bonds", which is how it got its second meaning.

I guess men can also have long flowing hair past their butt and wear an elegant evening gown that comes off of their bare shoulders to make them look stunningly beautiful, just like any woman, right. Or, at least, that’s how the new glass pet with those cool, wicked horns likes to dress, and the translator calls it a guy. Although it definitely looks a bit flat-chested, it definitely doesn’t look male to me. But hey, who am I to say?
