There's also the fact that Asumi...doesn't know Mai's true feelings, and it's not like Sayaka* said anything that would clue her in, here (which is valid as it's not her place, but, plot continues as a result).
So until Mai fesses up, Asumi still thinks of her as her childhood friend that gives her butterflies in her stomach for some reason. And I could be forgetting something, but I don't believe Asumi has any reason to suspect otherwise at this point.

So there's a chance that Asumi x Mai ends up being the endgame, and now that our protagonist has made her way through a bunch of partners, she'll cycle through once more on her Training Arc to become a good-enough Top/Switch to make things work with Mai.
Or, we go the harem route (involving pretty much everyone, maybe with Mai as "main wife position"), or polycule route that doesn't involve other brothel characters but maybe Nanao or Senpai or something. (Because if there's one place where that ending makes sense to me, it's here.)

Or, at least those're more or less the options I see it going from here, assuming the author allows for slightly more serious tones and it's not all as lighthearted as it's been to this point.

Also someone else mentioned "final boss" for her training and I wonder if it'll be her college Senpai giving Asumi the "final exam" session to see if she graduates from Bottom to Switch.

Anyway I hope Asumí is able to top Mai successfully. She did good with her FWB that one time. Thing is she didn’t intend to top her that time, something just clicked and it happened, so hopefully that works out again. I fully admit I just wasn't thinking too hard about the nuances of the plot, but you've definitely given me something to mull over.

I think....Asumi is not intentionally a shitbag. As in, she's legitimately not doing this out of selfish reasons, but is just kinda dumb. So not shitbag, just dipshit, I guess.

I honestly feel like there's barely any plot to this whatsoever and figured that we'd end up where we are currently if she did manage to find Mai, because once she does if she says "let's get together!" then that's...basically the end of the story. Especially given the tone's been pretty lighthearted, emotionally-speaking, and having heavy-ass jealousy out of Nanao or the other brothel women would change the tone that we've had thus far, if Asumi did become exclusive with Mai and they both just rode off into the sunset together.

I'm usually not one to go seeking harem/polycule endings, but this one feels like the most by-design title I've come across where that's explicitly the case. Mai has her feelings hurt and she loves Asumi and Asumi, as much as she cares about/loves Mai (in some fashion at least, I agree with that bit about 'why the fuck would she do all this if she didn't care about Mai a whole lot'), her head's all screwed up after her multi-run brothel tour.

I realize what you mean about this simply dragging the plot out, but I also admit that it feels necessary not to have this just end, assuming Asumi finds Mai and they both profess their love then and there.
If nothing else, Asumi doing something constructive while figuring out the Mai Situation alongside Nanao and all the others, means we have something constructive to focus on that wouldn't be solely hurt feelings/love polyhedrals/relationship drama as multiple people vie for Asumi's attention and affection. Not saying that would be bad, but this allows for tons more sex that's working toward a goal instead of solely having Asumi being pulled in multiple directions by multiple jealous partners. (Might still happen, but there's something propelling her forward here, in the instance the manga's decided on).

I could be off-base in some of my analysis or have skipped over something, but that's just my read on it as of this point. In a way, I think this keeps the tone light, keeps the Say Gex rolling in a fun way and not a drama-focused way, and like you said potentially builds toward an ending that allows everyone to be happy(or at least not left out in the cold).

@UdenEmpati What about the Ethical Non-Monogamy route, instead of the Polycule route? A polycule assumes all the members share emotional intimacy. I think one thing this story is doing, is detaching Sex from Romance. Here, sex is an act of pleasure, not necessarily one of emotional intimacy. You can see it in all the girls working for the brothel. They like sex, they've all gotten to know (biblically! heh) Asumi and like her as a person. But none of them treat her like a partner. Sex is more like sharing a cake with friends than it is a lifelong commitment to a partner.

I think it's telling that immediately after her reunion date with Mai, Asumi books a date with Sayaka again. They talk about her situation with Mai, but neither assumes that they should stop hooking up. It feels like Asumi, even if she settles with Mai, or Nanao, will still want to have detached non-romantic sex with multiple partners. They could even both work at the brothel, call themselves a couple, but not blink an eye when they take jobs.

As to @dokidoki feeling like this is dragging out the plot, I agree that it's dragging out the plot point about looking for Mai. But it's only improving the plot point where Asumi has escapades with dozens of women. That tells me that reconnecting with Mai might have been the starting event that drove Asumi into the brothel world, but it's no longer her primary motivator. She likes the wholesome brothel service she found, and it's now the main theme.

I think it's interesting that this has more plot/character development than the average hentai, but it's not without the hentai magic that depicts sex because it wants to depict sex. Hentai often makes wild illogical leaps to get people naked. The term "Yaoi" for BL is shorthand for "yamanashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi" (no climax, no point, no meaning) after all. This one tries a little harder, and it raises questions about non-monogamy.
