I doubt it's any better for any category with a sizable interest base. Some who are into seinen are peacocking tryhards-- and I thought the people into shoujo and josei would be generally chill, but it seems there's a contingent of them that are of the impression that those categories are collapsing and it's the fault of misogynistic men who... aren't buying shoujo manga because they aren't interested in material explicitly designed for young girls (they complain about American consumption at that, as if the economic perspective of Japan's businesses isn't nearly entirely concerned with domestic performance AND as if a significant amount of American anime consumers aren't just pirating and resorting to non-corporate scanlations).i mean, sure most shonen threads and romcom threads are complete cancer, but i don't go there.
