I kinda think that's part of the buildup - Or at least it feels intentional, in a way.

As "moronic" and densely direct as the two main leads are, there's some nuance to their characters that's conspicuously lacking from the CHF; which leads me to believe that her overt antagonistic attitude toward Ayumu and weirdly "object-treatment" possessiveness that you clocked for Hina, is setting up for some future moment of payoff.

Well, at the very least, Asuka wasnt such a jerk to Ayumu as she used to, but i does bother me how she keeps using the childhood card all the time when shes already has all the advantages of it. Tho, if im honest, theres a long way to go before Hina even care for anything romantic.
Regardless, Ayumu is the lead so eventually Asuka will have to pay dearly for being completely passive in the past and aggressive towards Ayumu in the present. Cant never forget she lying saying that Hina thought of Ayumu as a Nuisance at the start. Bully.
