It was hardly quick, Hanayama made it to the second round and then gave a pretty decent account of himself in that fight.

Everyone else knows each other mainly from the Maximum tournament and Jack should also know Hanayama from there at least vaguely.

Pretty sure Jack was the one who stepped in to stop Garland from wrecking Chiharu seconds after the Russian knocked out Hanayama in the dressing room, so he was likely there to witness that ignoble interaction at least, even if he did not interact with Hanayama directly.

Actually, now that I think about it, I get why Jack might think it's a different guy. Last time he saw Hanayama, he got rekt in one move by the guy Jack would beat, and now he's casually hugging Pickle. Can't be the same guy, surely.
