I'll only take Jack as a threat to Baki if he can easily beat Pickle in a head-on fight and facing Yujiro and surviving a long fight against him just like Baki did in the past.

It's kinda weird when you really think about it. The "real combat" in this context, in this modern age that Memetobe (or Itagaki himself) is referring to, is combat in a self-defense situation. In normal clothing, no warm-up or psyching up, always ready no matter what. This isn't the period in human history where enemies from another country might turn up and raid your village at the border without notice anymore, the only situation that is even remotely close to that is you getting mugged while taking a piss in a dark alley by a methhead.

I think your priority as a group should always be quality. If you have to release by volumes to keep it that way, then that's fine. I really appreaciate the effot you guys have put on this for so many years now.

I'm actually happy. With the fight with Yuujiro well in the past, the series lost focus but the underlying theme could still be explored. Last 2 arcs had a theme of ancient martial arts vs modern, but none of the cast are traditional modern martial artists which was an issue with the convict arc as well. Itagaki knows this so he always introduces a bunch of fodder characters like all the police in Tokyo or modern rikishi to humiliate before our main cast prove their strength. We needed an introspective chapter like this to decompress rather than jumping into the deep end like most new arcs start. Itagaki seems to be hinting at a return to the original premise of the convict arc and the first story arc, no holds bar fights anywhere and everywhere. Fuck Tokugawa and his crazy schemes.
