Eh. It's more difficult to succeed in politics than in music. Far more people are also daily interested in music than in politics. If you ask average youngsters, they could talk endlessly about music, but hardly anything about politics. They might be hard-pressed to name any but a few politicians. Older people could talk about politics a lot, but they would spit on most politicians. I'd find it hard to believe it would be all that different in Japan. Normally you'd hardly dislike any particular musicians, even if you didn't happen to like their music.

That old man just has his head stuck deep in his ass. No wonder the daughter is unhappy, soon to the worst degree. The old fool can't even see that if he could just fix her daughter's poor school performance somewhat, then having her be a part of a band might actually land him extra votes, if he used the daughter's music talent wisely but not too blatantly in his campaign. But maybe all of his voters are just conservative geezers and that's all he needs.

I think the father was more arguing for that having a stable, normal life and job is the road to success, rather than arguing that being a politician is better than music.

It doesn't matter. He chose a difficult path for himself, so why couldn't the daughter choose one as well? He didn't even dare to say that he doesn't wish for her a career as challenging as he has had. If he had said that, then maybe you could take it that way, that she doesn't need to repeat his "mistakes". But since he didn't say that, it means he's proud of his own career in the politics, but looks down on other ways of life that might be similarly challenging.

Eh I mean if this guy wanted to plan her entire life out in the first place why even allow her to rebel for so long. Even while being strict he fails to truly be strict. Education would start the moment she understood words by private tutors who will give her tutelage till adulthood. Her schedule for every day has been arranged, she has no need to go to school, and every person she meets will be someone thoroughly vetted to ensure she will grow as he hopes (This happens in reality, there are autobiographies written detailing such a life)

Consider now what is happening currently, where the daughter has been rebelling for god knows how long and has formed strong relationships and connections with others in that rebellious world - clearly something went wrong and the father was too late in correcting the path (be it whether he should or not). Come on man, at least do it right if you want to be a strict parent, that'd be interesting. Now you're just a wannabe who fails to be strict and a failure of a father who doesn't give enough love to his child
