"Why save her?"
"Because she's my friend."
Don't need another reason. Argument stops there.

This is a bit of a scarier opponent than the lame idiot they defeated before.

Quick! Administer Headpats until she stops being crazy!
Only problem is getting close enough without losing your hand.

Tis' but a scratch
Yeah, hopefully she'll recover. Might take a while, but as long as.

I think the ones responsible for this world have confused the terms "hero" and "berserk".
This.
Because I can't rationalize hero's action otherwise.
Hero couldn't harm the Sage just because the Sage can be helpful in hero's mission of defeating the Demon Lord, completely disregarding how he's actually a bad guy who sabotaged the progress of that mission.
So why did she slash MC?
Not only was MC a good guy, he was also the strongest asset in defeating the Demon Lord right now.

I assume the whole reason is to remove someone who would free her from the hero influence. As we know he care more about his sister than the hero, so he'd never let her just be brainwashed now that he knows what being the hero does.

It's not uncommon for heroes to have a limit break type of skill that basically turns them into a berserker. We just don't normally see it from this end, because we always see through the eyes of the hero and there it's always viewed through a sappy power of friendship lens.

I'm reminded of that one scene in the film, Medicine Man, where Sean Connery's character is about to face off with the old tribal Medicine Man....

"Oh, so this is the eat-crow-kiss-ass contest? What's the catch?"
"The catch? It's not getting my head knocked off in the process."

tbh, this is an L for gideon. the demon manage to take ares on his side, manage to fulfil whatever plan he had in mind and I sure hell know he is ready to die to fulfil it.

gideon should've known ares weird behaviour since gideon never underestimate his opponent. he also knows there are two people infiltrating their hideout and can even infer one of them definitely asura masking as his muscle friend and leading ares towards them.

tho if gideon confront asura right then, we wont see ares die lol. Gideon sense definitely dull a bit due to those peaceful life he had. And this leads to his judgment not as sharp as he used to have.
