it's cause the original katakana or hiragana used can mean different things, so the word above shows which one it is, no idea what burst means though

It's actually the Kanji and the text above is Furigana, which yes describe the meaning

But here it's katakana for the English word so it's a bit weird...

Agreed, Looks very wierd. The girl, Eris, pulled backwards just before slapping him which does not make it seem like she's gonna slap him. I gotta admit that this manga is very poorly drawn by the artist especially when the characters use magic, it looks like crap.

I don't have experience as a King (duh) but I don't think he should treat the best warriors of his kingdom so harsh. It's not like they can't just leave the kingdom and join another just like certain Saint just did a couple chapters ago...
