Lilliwyt, the "plot" I am referring to is the world that the author expands at their whim. They go into some surface background of the family and that's about it. So when I say the plot is "dragging its heels" is referring to the rare occurrences I'm treated to something more substantial about these characters and that further builds them to becoming better characters. As in we have the characters meeting, falling in love, encounter conflict with the girls family, how that gets resolved, and so on. This is the plot I am referring to.
I want to know more about these characters (the main ones) and here comes some side character with some full blown backstory, which seems to have have more attention to it then the other main characters. This is what is annoying.
This is why I dropped Natsume Yuujinchou. I wanted to know more about the main characters backstory, namely the grandmother. But the mangaka keeps just teasing me as the reader with just tidbits here and there over LONG stretches. It became frustrating to the point where I just dropped it.
