I feel like the villagers would still put the blame on MC even after the village is saved.
By the way, I think some readers have too much faith in humanity and forget how especially terrible the humans were in the past. A lot of poor people particularly those who have authority in a small poor area would generally sacrifice "useless" kids/elders in the village just to get by winter or some hard times, some in the form of ritual to the "gods" (In some areas of the world in modern times, some babies are cooked as food to get through hunger). In this story, it's still making perfect sense, since we are not given the politics within the village and the relationship between MC's dad with the village head and his followers, who knows the village head did that to MC because he's in bad term/rivalry with MC's dad in the past but couldn't get rid of him due to his ability and social influence in the village? There weren't many details given from MC's perspectives mainly because he was just a kid oblivious to a lot of things. About the village head followers, when it comes to their own survival and their choice of leader to follow, of course, they would support the village head than a kid they barely knew. For some people empathy is lacking and considered as a weakness, I mean it's not even that rare nowadays, just look at some policies of some religious organisations/ countries and their followers. They don't see everyone as equal human beings I believe, it's either people who are useful/ related to them, or useless people who would take away their share of benefits/rights that they feel undeserved of.
