The MC is actually quite bad at fighting. It makes sense because he hasn't been doing it for that long, and before it he was a total non-combatant, who was bullied every day, to boot. And even after he began fighting, it has been, for the vast majority of time, against opponents that are utterly powerless in front of him. So, rather than learning good fighting habits that would help him when facing a powerful opponent, he only learned bad habits in his numerous no-effort fights.

Yeah while this series has some bad writing, this is actually goodish writing that he's terrible in combat strategically/concentration wise.

The "ultima weapon" is a recurring thing in the Final Fantasy series, but what I'm talking about specifically is Final Fantasy 14. One of the big enemies in the base game of FF14 is the Ultima Weapon, a powerful machine made by an ancient civilization (like Galia here) + which the current evil empire dug up and is using for their own ends, and which has the ability to absorb big monsters to gain their powers.

which bears a lot of similarities to the chimera here. It's entirely possible the author came up with this monster himself, but it's a bit funny how many similarities there are, if he didn't make it as a reference.

Also, though the Ultima Weapon doesn't use a human as a core like the monster here does, someone makes a copy of it later on that does.

She is Wrath, her weapon is Sloth.

Just like how MC is Gluttony and his weapon is Greed.
