The art is what separates this from your average mediocre publishing. Most Mangaka simply copy the average and go from there, only focusing on the characters themselves, and doing backgrounds cheaply with no interests.
since berserk is Fantasy, it provides an incentive to do this right. The backgrounds are probably the most impressive out of any Manga series, really fleshing out the world.
The story oddly became hyper focused on the brown woman and that’s where I kinda lost interest. It’s understandable that there’s a motive to seek vengeance, but I seriously felt like it wasn’t that deep and the brown woman was an excuse to pursue revenge.
Even the chapters leading up to the Mangakas death is still about this brown woman, but personally it’s still not that deep.
The side characters are interesting and only really serve to move Guts forward which’s leads to The side questing. To me it was tedious because I really wanted to see more of Guts evolving. Instead it became a formula like he was playing WoW or something.
As for the blond guy, after his moment he sought to unify and prevent any more conflicts by warring? His motives were not clear at all. That’s what makes him so confusing.
Anyways great art, story somewhat okay
