Probably they use a chemical that force the transformation, reason the childs are save and probably Bones is a seraphim now.

I won't accept what they did, just because you are hurt doesn't allow you to hurt others, they children being alive isnt a saving grace... it is a curse, there is no greater cruelty than to make such young children live knowing the fact that their parents are dead and their futures forever transformed.
They can all burn in hell for all i care, what they did is an act of hate and nothing they did will change the world for the better, they just wanted to go down swinging but they did it on those that were easy to attack.
