Is there any benefit to claiming a bitcoin transaction? Like a little icon next to your name or something? 😉

What about having support for brave rewards?
I make about 1 dollar a month on brave rewards just by having pop up ads on my PC, if multiple users do it as well, that's quite a bit of money for you guys.
Definitely an interesting option methinks.

EDIT: oh I see it's already been suggested above lol.
Then why was it rejected?

...it depends on your connection to your nearest Path servers - South East Asia has poor connectivity at peak times because Path do not have any in the region
This explains why my gigabit connection feels like dial-up sometimes on Mangadex.

Please do not fuck up this good UI. You can try improving the settings containers, but keep the font/colors and feel the same.

well if its for me, just concentrate making the site stable and fast first, the UI of this website is modern enough, I just dont want another UI upgrade again, we had that like a year ago.

"...Bitcoin transactions can be claimed by entering your wallet code on the Support page, or PMing me with transaction information if you don't have a wallet code (because you sent the Bitcoins direct from the exchange to our wallet)."

What's this? You can actually get some reward for donation?

Looking forward to the new UI!
But please do a public opt-in beta (on something like a mangadex subdomain), so people can get used to it and provide feedback before they have to use it.

Also, any chance the UI code is gonna be open source? I would love to be able to fix bugs I discover.

On the subject of UX, I wonder: are you already doing user testing sessions? If you are, nevermind my ramblings...

TL;DR: Get 3 users a month to have a Zoom/Teams/whatever screensharing session where you watch them use the site while you take notes.

I'm (somewhat) in charge of the process of including user testing sessions in the dev process of the startup I work in. I'm a coder with no specific UX training and have just been self-learning this. My experience has been that even really crude and non-rigorously designed impromptu sessions are useful because without observing actual users actually using the site you can make surprisingly terrible mistakes in design that you don't notice because you see the site from the viewpoints of a developer who knows exactly how everything works. It's pretty much impossible to accurately simulate the experience of a clueless user in your own mind, you have to see it for yourself to understand what things in the UI are actual problems.

Doing user testing sessions can be started immediately without needing to hire a specialist. You don't need a UI/UX specialist to do them though someone with such experience can provide additional effectiveness to your UI development. MangaDex already has a very large userbase and I think it'll be pretty effortless to, once a month, recruit 3 people to do a 15-60min session without needing to pay them. A session consists of watching somebody use the website while they narrate out loud their thoughts and what they're trying to do. Crude and simple sessions can be really useful when you've never done any sessions at all. Being increasingly rigorous in the testing setup becomes necessary the more polished your UI becomes because the remaining problems become increasingly subtle and harder to notice.

I read the books Don't Make Me Think and Rocket Surgery Made Easy when I was first figuring what user testing is, they seem like pretty good starting points.

I mentioned this once before, so sorry if it's been addressed, but could we have a progress bar for server costs showing how much has been covered by the donations? Maybe in terms of yearly costs.

Another option I've found for buying Crypto without verification is LocalCryptos: https://localcryptos.com.

It's basically a P2P marketplace that's just for trades between users of the site, and there's (at least where I live) quite a few options to get BTC for cash (maybe not in the current situation), bank transfer or other means.
This is definitely more risky than buying from a known big website since you're buying from people directly, but they have some safeguards to make sure you're not being ripped off - I recommend reading through their FAQ.

Not for everyone, but I'm currently considering it bc I don't want some random website to have all my info just to buy some crypto...

@WATTA Agreed!

The only areas I can see needing improvement are perhaps ease of checking friends, messages, etc. Maybe, checking one's old postings like on REDDIT. But, even that is pretty simple. Adding a few features. But, overall, I find the site relatively user friendly. It's got a clean design, and unless there isn't a "night mode" already to help save battery life on OLED screens, I don't see much that would need to be done (if anything) to the site's interface.

It helps when a site is purpose built by and managed by the same collective group of people who use it.

Maybe, if it doesn't already exist, create a channel on Discord specific for suggestions.

The only area of improvement/integration is better support for Tachiyomi. While possible to have some features integrated, it would be awesome for mobile users to have complete site access through Tachiyomi. That would improve my mobile experience far more than site UI changes, since I constantly have issues with integration. Heh.

I like the UI as is but if you're able to streamline the menus a bit more, I'd welcome change. Maybe try working on the mobile a bit more. It's fine but requires a slightly too much precision in the follows tab.

@DragonLord
overall, I find the site relatively user friendly.

I also feel this way about MangaDex. But at my job I've seen users in testing sessions not know what to do most of the time and yet at the end tell me that they think our app works pretty well and are generally satisfied being our customer. I think this is because most software is pretty shitty and that's what people are used to.

The biggest potential for really easy improvement of my experience of using MangaDex is that there are existing features that I haven't realized exist and would be grateful to discover. This is exactly the kind of thing I wouldn't realize myself but a developer watching me while I narrate out loud what I'm trying to do would see plain as day.
