So the entire reason Noelle went back to the countryside was to look after her mother. What happened to that? After that declaration we never saw her mother's constitution. And at the end, when Noelle follows Luke to the Magic Order thingy what about her mother? Is she just going to be left by herself afterall? I'm confused.

The mother probably went with her to the capital. Luke know about the mother's condition so he probably offered them both to move to the capital

Okay, but where is the bit in which the Guild Master is stript of his title and possessions, and forbidden to use any means to earn his livelihood other than by dancing on street-corners in a soiled clownsuit?

But, if the mother was willing-and-able to move to the capital, then why didn't she do that in the first place?

We're basically talking about the cost of the MC moving from the capital back home versus the cost of the mother moving to the capital. During the move time, either the MC could have been working as a magician or the mother at whatever she did (depending upon who moved).

It's hard to believe that money argued for the MC to move.

it's the cost of a house/living costs in the capital, anyways iirc the webnovel explicitly stated that her mom did come with her later, and that she was sick 3 years ago (aka Noelle went back to care for her mother, since asking her to move while sick is a bad idea), so money is the factor on top of everything else

An inability to move due to illness makes sense as an explanation.

The price of room-and-board does not. That would reflect general wages, and the royal magicians would be amongst the higher paid.

I'm not saying that you are mistaken about what the novel claims; but what the novel claims does not make sense.

Boy, don't interrupt a girl's grass eating time.

She's cranky when she's hungry.

A lot of details were scrubbed from the adaptation, but according to the novel by this point her mother is completely healthy. Obnoxiously healthy, actually. She keeps bothering Noelle to find a husband. Noelle takes her with her to live together at the capital, where she can continue to say "that Luke boy is a fine catch, make sure you don't let him slip away" every time Noelle comes home.
