The author discards important context here. He claims that a football player has the ball for, on average, 136 seconds in a 90-minute game. 2.51% of total game time.
In this exercise, the characters "played" a "game" that lasted 2:16 minutes, rather than 90. In this situation, each player would have the ball for approximately 3.42 seconds. In short, the coach's method was flawed.

@Oured what you are forgetting is that in a game, players are constantly trying to take the ball away from you, which reduces the amount of time you have.

Here, if you stood still with the ball, you would have 136 seconds. So it can't exactly be reduced in the same way.

Furthermore, the factors are all different. What this is recreating are the skills needed for being in the penalty box.

I think you are right that it doesn't work out super neatly, but I think the coach would just reply that matches don't always work out neatly either.

I think he's a snake that's very egoistic already. But he prides himself so much when he's merely 'lucky' that he didn't view them as his opponents.

This is proved when he 'breaks down' upon losing- he proclaims his title and that the bottom two should've gotten eliminated instead. He doesn't care about them and never really did.

Well, of this 300 players how many will actually get selected to play? Counting older players that are already there i can only see 1 or 2 of them being selected at most. The guy already promised for the top 5 a spot in the sub 20 team. I would take the chance. if you are not the best of the country you are not going to the world cup anyways.

Kinda hard to win an argument with a sociopath who is the one that planned the scenario/game and the rules beforehand, and what's worse you're the one with a mild concussion, after a football hit your face hard enough to give you a nosebleed and make you drop..

The truth is he didn't have chance to kick the ball w/ anyone, because from the shock to the head which was hard enough to make him fall.

If this game had been fair, then every time the one being "it", would have a certain minimum time to burn someone new, no matter how little time was left in the timer.
This specific game was pretty retarded since it was all about timing, and football doesn't have (almost) anything to do with dodging the ball like that. Also ofc in a smaller space it's easier to hit e.g. bigger/taller players. That doesn't mean they can't be excellent players otherwise.

I just think mr. Ego (meaning the author) is wrong, has flawed logic, and just because he can win an argument with a confused and angry player in that moment, doesn't make him right.

But yeah I think you have to be at least a bit into football to read this till the end without dropping it.
I'm really not, and I think mr. Ego is a just cringy with his sinister smiling, so yeah..

I love how the author logic is destroyed by his own drawing, like the logic that hey you still had 1 second you could use ur knee to pass it on to the monk dude, but the drawing shown us that the ball was kick to his nose and in page 46 the monk dude isn't even near him but on page 56 suddenly the monk dude got teleported in the middle of the room near him even tho he was injured in the corner of the room in page 35, like c'mon who the hell is the editor here
