gotta say it always makes me more than a little bit uncomfortable seeing everyone but the mc and the shitty parents refer to yuka w her desired pronouns... like yuka is all but explicitly trans in characterization so i cant tell if it’s intentional on the authors part to have the mc be oblivious it as to have him face it later or if there’s something lost in translation that produces a seemingly unarguably trans character to someone in the western lgbt community thats just a crossdresser in the author’s cultural eyes

@mitochan the tragedy can be all sorts of things. sometimes there are people who try to help someone suffering (psychologically, emotionally, physically, financially, etc) and end up suffering themselves in a similar way. it's all about the personal sacrifice on behalf of another person, beyond the expectations of society to "check the box" on helping someone. and I assume this will turn into him developing deeper empathy to enhance his art (similar to the sketchbook exercise that took place in the chapter - looking at yourself through another person's eyes because you gain some empathy for their mindset).

@NoraDaimo artists who are very passionate hahahaha I mean, they're always about expressing themselves and being unique and you will find many odd ones ... They can have normal conversations but from artist to artist I guess it becomes more philosophical sometimes.

@los0032 to me at least i see a lot of signs of gender dysphoria, which is just feeling deeply uncomfortable, to say the least, with the gender u got based on whether or not u have a pp/tiddie, and this feeling also is what makes ppl trans/non-binary. yuka dressing/acting in a feminine way is at the very least reminiscent of how trans girls act/dress feminine to fight gender dysphoria. also the scorn and demands from her parents for her to “be normal”,,, deadass made my heart hurt. that experience isnt unique to trans kids per say, but it is something a lot of trans kids experience. these examples are just off the top of my head, sorry if this kinda is a ramble, thanks for asking tho

@Bluybee thats where im not sure if the author intends for yuka to b trans, bc i know some(?) gender pronouns aren’t necessarily tied to gender, so it is possible yuka does identify as a man and just prefers feminine pronouns in certain contexts, but i dont know enough abt how gender pronouns work in japanese to make an argument- and from personal experience (chinese korean), asians arent exactly known for their progressive stance of acknowledging the existence of trans ppl, so that complicates it further
