Everyone in that manga is some flavour of mentally ill except for the MMC and his dad, both of whom might also be considered insane for their chosen partners

Can someone explain to me the seemingly Japanese sentiment that tall people are better in any sport?
I mean I get basketball and volleyball or fighting sports but in so many manga i've read there seems to a plot point about how just being tall makes you superior in any sport and how someone tall not doing a sport is "a wasted opportunity" or something like that. How would that work in soccer or baseball?

And in this chapter, what kind of events are they doing in primary school where being taller means you easily win everything?
