Objectively, Anna's way ahead in life but it is cute that her love and respect for Kyo makes her see it another way.

"I still haven't caught up with you, Kyotaro."

Even with the translation, I'm still not sure what Yamada means by that. Is it because of Kyo's unsurpassable speech in the previos year? I have the idea that she saw how hard Kyo worked towards getting into his desired high school to the point of losing sleep and having eye bags, while she got into her high school via referral, like Bayashiko Hanzawa, etc.. Maybe she has this feeling because she wants to be able to work just as hard toward something herself - like becoming a food reporter - and have those efforts bring her a sense that she's finally caught up with the person closest to her (No overworking yourselves this time, please). This reminded me of chapter 163, where Ichikawa had the same feeling.

Dunno, I could be waaaay off but this is another example of why it would be helpful to see her POV thought process, so she can be understood better.
Thanks for the translation
Pretty sure its because she saw how much he progressed.

The speech was awesome, he struggled to go to his school of choice as well. Pretty sure in her eyes he got very OP and since she doesnt see her achievements as too big, he changed more than her probably.

damn it the ending is so close just a month more and il lay in bed thinking there arent any good anime / manga anymore for a day or 2 minimum. tbh i agree with some people here that it felt different early on and then became like every other romance school life except these 2 are horny af.

Oh man, I feel sorry for those random kids that came by for advice for their speech and got used as stepping stones to hype up Yamada. Like yes, support your girlfriend, but also sheesh. Those students came by asking for help from their senpai. If I were them I would've responded, "That's cool bro, but we're here asking for your advice about the speech you did last year. You know, when you were in the same grade level as us? Not sure what Yamada and the speech she HASN'T yet delivered for the grade we'll be in next year has to do with that. Can you help us or not??"

Unfortunate closing to a very promising story initially. It's weird how we get this doomerism from Yamada in the next to last chapter, saying how she isn't caught up to Kyotaro, walking different paths, suggesting they will break up by the end

Yeah, the whole plotline about Yamada having a role that would require her to kiss a guy just sorta… fizzled out. Maybe Sakurai-sensei was thinking about doing that sort of conflict, but then realized what monsters she would unleash upon the world if she did an NTR tease

More like there was no way a drama would actually have a middle schooler have a kiss scene with her adult co-star so it wasn't really a logical conflict.

She did make NTR bait during that chapter and still no proper explanation until now ...

I mean by her mom go seduce that playboy actor and go out event/building leaving Anna alone in that event ...and somehow magically arrive at her husband restaurant and make no sense of introduce her husband at that actor

I'm going to be honest, I'll be disappointed if these last chapters are all about the graduation speech.

The top right panels on pages 5 and 6 of Yamada reminded me of how she looked like in the very early volumes. It felt like it was reminiscent.

Prepare to be disappointed, sorry.

I'm so disinterested in this series now that I might as well drop it, I really don't care about the ending anymore.

It hasn't been about Kyo & Anna's relationship in ages, it just all feels so disjointed.

There has been literally 0 romantic (they're still hiding their relationship for crying out loud) or physical progression since chapter 157, and that's fucking 40 chapters ago -- one fifth of this entire manga, crucially the last fifth of it, just fucking floundering and not going anywhere. An absolute disgrace, honestly.

Akabane wasn't asking for advice on his speech, he was saying he and his friends were hoping Ichikawa would deliver the 3rd year speech because his delivery of the 2nd year speech last year made such an impression that it inspired Akabane to read the 2nd year speech for this year and it hasn't been finalized that Yamada is going to be the one to deliver the 3rd year speech at the actual event.

Like I realize there's still an underlying premise of "Ichikawa has kohai who look up to him" in the interaction, but this was absolutely not Akabane soliciting advice, this was "Hey, I wasn't expecting someone else to be giving the speech for the grade you're graduating from (and I'm implying I would like you to take that role instead)."
