Actually I think the author did dodge some of the annoying tropes. He isn't unnoticeable as he thinks he is as even some his classmates are aware of how he won an award and she's not some ice princess #1 school beauty. The way the author worded it just seems like she's one of the more popular girls in his class so it's not a high bar like most other mangas do. I wonder if it's just all on his head like him comparing himself to her who most guys would obviously help because they're horndogs. Also he has a good reason to act the way he is unlike others where they just apathetic usually and sulk about their "mobness" without actually trying to do anything about it.

Hopefully, but he still has classical troupe of a loser who gets all red from any interaction with a girl giving off classical (IRL Japan epidemic) herbivore man vibe (mangaka trying to catch the main audience).
And yet again we see mangaka pondering to a loser with a class beauty instead of giving them a more realistic grounded "target". Who helps him. Yet again taking his hand and guiding him as a small child towards his "success" story.

Instead i think it would be healthy for japanese media industry to try and correct guys like that instead to spoil them with extra unhealthy candy.
You feel like a complete fucking bio-trash loser on the bottom of your school hierarchy? Stop fapping, stop thinking that you are a mob and stop playing games. Train everyday (at least basic work out), do your homework and study more. Lastly find a nice girl who isn't in the top rankings but someone you can really relate to. You think even some mid level girl is too much? Stop thinking, if SHE talks to you and is ready to go out at least in group friendly setting, you at least already gained a girl who doesn't think your a creep.
Instead we are given a loser who is bad at everything and a magical top beauty comes changes his life, then sometimes he helps her with his basic (meaning almost every guy was born with it) kindness. Then drama and after they finally kiss.

P.S. If a girl in Japan especially(but works almost anywhere in the world) shows of her underwear and nonchalantly touches you with her body, she is basically inviting you and even if not she will reject you and for her this will be a lesson not to do something so inviting. Women usually are quite conscious of these things especially once again in Japan and other more conservative countries. If you think about sexual harassment, it goes both ways a woman feeling you up with her breasts is already sexual harassment).
