This development is rather peculiar. The last chapter made it seem like we're gonna start seeing Azuki and Remu drifting and sinking into their darkest places, and yet this chapter gives an alternative… but as another commenter here pointed out, this could blow up.
We also haven't even seen Niji's mind melting this chapter. Does this mean we're abandoning the toxicity? Or is this the calm before the storm? It's hard to predict with Usui Shio.
On the one hand, I think it's reasonable to expect Remu to relax, think Niji isn't a threat anymore, not notice Niji is still stalking her, and have that blow up in her face as Niji sees Remu with Azuki again and make everything worse.
On the other hand, I feel like the next few chapters will have seeds sprouting, changing the plot's direction ever so slightly each on its own, yet causing a drastic change in total. That's how the last arc felt, with its start suggesting Azuki's mental breakdown is imminent, but between the start and the end, before meeting with Meguru, Azuki had gained Remu as an ally, and Niji saw Remu's secret, making the confrontation completely different than what it could have been.
I'm not sure how things will go, but I know I can trust Usui Siho to make a a supremely satisfying masterpiece. This chapter has been amazing, as usual, and I'm eagerly awaiting next chapter!
Thanks for the translation!
