@KLGChaos now that may be true but giving them 3rd gave them some motivation as well. They had to improvise but got 3rd now they will start thinking what if we give our all with no hiccups how much better could we do? If they got 1st with the mistake it may give a bad mind set where even if they make mistakes again it will still be fine. Plus the way it was planned may also effect the grade. So the production progress and planning may have had a part as well.

you can change the teacher to Koro-sensei, Onizuka, Kakashi or whoever teacher you like, but the result will always 3rd.

I somehow can't agree with her grading. Arts are pure luck in inspiration, and skill is second. That's why you can't grade an art with expectation of the artist to make constant masterpiece.

But then again it's group project, maybe the judges saw that the result is too depended on one person (MC's editing skill) thus they gave lower score.

Well at least they get third place cause if this is my professor he would have failed it for not following what he taught. He made us redo the whole project cause we used different methodology than what he taught. That methodology is the new thing in the market.

Same with that teacher in high school. She did the same thing.

That's...not how you grade work though. You can't just say "You aren't getting a better grade because you should be worse than this", what kind of logic is that?
My degree was in creative media, specialising in film making. Before taking media in college, I had zero filmmaking experience. For almost every one of my practicals, I got a high merit/distinction level grade. If my tutor had marked me down just because I had no portfolio beforehand, I would have been livid.
