This would be so horrifying to be in the adventures shoes. They knew that the unknown monster was smart, but that was its smart of a animal, not its human smart, potentially able to fully understand their speech, knows numbers, items, and has a concept of negotiations. In their eyes it just went from a powerful enemy they don't know if they can kill, to basically a demon lord. The idea of making tricking and trapping it, or using tactics to wear it down just went out the window. Now they have to worry if it makes traps for them. They still have no clue what he is, but this was not good news to them. As they know the nobles will not try to make peace with this unknown monster.
