You're assuming that whatever antitode he could concoct with the tools and materials available to him during this journey would do anymore than temporarily slow down the venom's effects. From how he's referring to it as the venom of a "monster", and given the snake is a biological mutant/aberrant, it may require a specialized antidote that isn't available to him or anywhere nearby on the path of his journey. Maybe he thought a regular antitode and his extraordinarily tough constitution would let him power through until he reached his master's place (i.e. the journey's destination), where he could then have it properly dealt with.
