To be fair, game like systems can be good provided the author knows how to expand and use it to explain how the world works instead of just some random power level explanation thing. Like Banished From the Hero's Party, which uses levels and skills to explain the horror of one's life being governed by the skill they were born with and how it tied back to the ruling god's plans for the world.

I really love that comparison of human with Goblin, it's a very interesting comparison between animal with beastman that hardly got brought up in fantasy stories
