He never actually finished her off when he could, he never committed to going as far as needed. He accepted this game while trying to not cross any lines himself. And she knew he would act this way. His own fault, his ego is destroyed now no matter how this happened. Now you can whine about how unrealistic it is that she wasn't immediately knocked out.

People don't get to see how others hallucinate when being choked out, it's so unrealistic! The fact we could proves just how wack and bad the author is, and how much all of this manga's readership is as done with it as I am.

If someone is on your back and you jump, they can easily use their body as a counter-weight so you just face plant instead of crushing them.

He could've also tucked his chin in and separated her arms from the lock. Mata-Leão is strong as fuck and almost impossible to escape in a standard fight. He's fighting someone way smaller and way weaker than him, he also has taken no significant damage while she's has been beaten to a pulp.
Honestly, he was on edge and he's a world champion, the moment he felt her on his back he should be able to counter an obvious RNC.
But if any of the above happened we would have no manga, or maybe a slightly more interesting one.

I especially love that they went out of their way to explain the rear naked choke and what it does, continuing to sprinkle in the fighting nerd trivia probably only makes the reality of what the series is all the better.

Personally, I hated this. I will drop this like many people have already. This fight just dragged on and on like it's Sakuraba vs Royce Gracie. I still thought he should've won, but given who the author is...that would be too much like right. No point in mentioning weight disadvantage, MMA moves, or realism. The obvious has already been beaten to death here in the comments. I wanted to see the JK version of "the innovator of violence" Tommy Dreamer loses here and shows "there's levels to this" like for example Ippo sparring session against Ricardo Martinez. It's OK for your characters to lose against someone far more superior than them then having the plot save their ass. She won't suffer any real consequences, humiliation, nor shatter ego here. Only her opponents. And that makes for boring writing to me just like how I found the writing in Kakegurui to be boring. I won't be sticking around for Walmart version of Yumeko to preach about vIoLeNcE, then proceed to get her ass handed to her in a no win situation only for the asspull at the end. Just like Kakegurui, if the poster girl wasn't some tired out trend of being crazy, and attractive with giant bazonga this would be much lower than a 7.8 rating here.

At this point I'm waiting for everyone to get filtered so I can enjoy my baki/kengan like without having to deal with people complaining that a woman winning is too far for them to believe but if the smaller meeker guy with no experience pulled it out of his ass it would have been hype. I will say I'm legit glad she's so strong cause you don't see many women in manga like this, it's refreshing.

I feel like the issue is that the nerd is the main character and not her. Since the nerd is the main character and she is acting like the mentor character, she can't lose until he gets close to her level.
