The author puts stuff in the manga to make sense and to come full circle by the end.
Using this tale about the Lover's Abyss isn't just a way to introduce the story, but where the story will be based upon.
So a lot of parallels will be shown and it's already starting to form a picture of what's to come. But of course repeating the tale the exact same way would just be meh, so the author had to twist things a bit and make people now get attracted to the guy and in a different way, througth his depression.

But just like the tale, "that desired person" will fall in love with someone, it could be anyone, but I think it's pretty clear that it's the idol, he always had shown to be drawn to her. So this story will be about them trying to "get together" (to die together) and all the other characters interffering with their "love" (ideia to end their lifes together). In the tale it ended in a tragic way, maybe this time it could end up in a happy one (hope so).
