Same, kanamis brother is basically the same as my own except we're closer in age and my parents arent dead, they both abuse eachother and Ive become out of touch. Tbh my youngest sister is a bit like kanami in that she tries to bridge the two but Ive already declared him a lost cause so I can relate with those who havent forgiven him but also you

I normally dont read depressin manga but seeing the similarities between him and my brother I wanted to see the ending, granted I knew it would end up like this I wanted to see the journey. At the end of it I can say I sympathise with kanamis brother and it makes me think what if I was like kanami, but then again im not young and naive like her and dont hold too much hopes, plus this is real life

I thought only the girl went to the same school as kanami's brother? Or did I miss something?

And I think it's not that they thought "oh ye it's fine" she feels the guilt over being not able to help him and tried to talk to him.
Tbh I was bullied before but no I'm not condemning those passerby who isn't helping me neither do their face comes to mind. Rather, it's when they are half hearted about it or who betray your trust. Tbh I remembered people who tried to talk to me in a more of a good light rather than blaming them why they didn't save me.
Thinking it back now, I think they just don't want to get the bullying too or maybe it's the human instinct of fear since they're too just kids in puberty.

Checked again, only the girl was in the same school yes. And she did help him half-heartly, which is why it didn't work (she stopped once the bullying and that's about it). The brother said it himself, to not start helping if she can't keep going untill the end. Then she stopped.
What I don't like in general is that everyone seems to be seeing him as a lost cause. Someone who was seen as trash by his parents, bullied at school, having both parents dying and, the hardest of all, having a sister who doesn't know about all this treatment. I feel like he's been keeping up pretty well until high school, but he eventually broke down. Now, instead of helping him recover, people keep looking down on him, treating him like trash. In the end, he and his sister are the "strongest" character of the manga imo, because even being seen as trash throughout his whole life (even by MC and friends), it looks like he'll be able to recover. I just hate the fact that someone who put so much effort to keep up a good life, eventually breaking down, and now starting to walk forward, is seen in such a bad way by MC&friends. He's been through enough sht, instead of calling him names and punching him they should maybe try to help for real for once.

@Liu well that's a way to see it but I think he got punched because of his treatment towards kanami in those years she tried to reach him.
I mean if she really doesn't know anything does that mean she sinned? Does she really deserve to be slapped and ignored? Nothing gonna change when you don't communicate imo.
The brother isn't an evil person by heart so when he muster the courage to confront and apologize to kanami, in the end they want to support both of them. Yes it might sound sht to people who understand the pain of the brother but it's also the same for kanami who is still a child and doesn't know why her brother changed and for those who see it through kanami's story.

I think it'll depend on how you try to see it and from whose perspective, for me I just don't want to label everything as "good" or "bad" since they all are both sides. Which is easier to see because I'm the third person wo read both sides of the story but not so for the people involved imo.

This chapter left a sour taste in my mouth, though I don't approve how the brother acted, I dislike how they paint the rental bro to be some kind of saint that knows what needs to be done despite not having ever solved his own personal issues, unless that gets resolved later. I don't mind kanami seeing him rental bro as friend but should take his advice with caution seeing as it didn't help her half the time and proved to only worsen the situation. It just seems like him and his friends are a little self entitled In thinking they're any better than the brother despite not knowing the whole story.

Wow you probably think the girl is worse then the bullies for not helping him with his life problems.
Also only the girl witnessed his bullying.

Again, they have absolutely no obligation to help him with all his problems, plus the girl did help him once but he took it like an ass.

Are you going to spend all your time and dedication to help a complete stranger with his life problems?

You're insane if you think MC's friends are bad people.
They care, and the girl even regrets not doing more even though theres absolutely no need for her to do so.

What happened to the brother IS NOT their responsibility. And its certainly not their fault.
