Just speculating here:
The “one” is either the first prince or the previous emperor survived their “accident”
The second prince/current emperor is responsible for everything that has happened thus far: Karl’s family dying/burning, prev emperor & 1st prince “accidentally” going over a cliff, fire-bombing the dragon duchess.
The “game” being played is between the dragon duchess and the current emperor, stakes most likely to be either the kingdom and/or Chester himself.

So far it was obvious the girls the dragon and the king is the Villain. I'm assuming the king got close to the main guy after the dragon did.

The magician seems to be on the side of the main guy unclear if he works for the kingdom.

Feel like I should of pointed this out last chapter... But the mad king is trying to kill the dragon thats watched over and protected his country. I guessing hes not very educated. I dont think he would even know the dragon is the proxy messenger he was trying to kill. By failing to kill her, is he not smart enough to know she would tell the dragon (not that it matters as she is the dragon in which why he failed). hes just a mad foolish king. Never ends well for those types, but they can still do alot of damage to the kingdom in the meantime.

@Velsy He asked for the dragons head. So yes, he wants to kill the being that protects his country. It's insane but that's why I wouldn't be surprised if he was aware that the duchess is the dragon herself.
