A thread for actual real cars! Not the Pixar ones.

Cars are expensive. Cars are cool. Cars have wheels.

Post pics! Talk the talk.

Post links to sales pages for cars you would (or are going to) buy.

Talk about your favorite cars, or just talk about the one/s you currently own.

Talk about racing.

Anything car related goes (within reason).

Sometimes cited as the first rock 'n' roll song:

The front of my apartment serves as a used car dealership office. Every day, there's a row of luxury cars parked there.
It makes all the residents of my apartment look like rich people.

Old cars are nice too!

The Rocket 88 was pretty decent for an affordable option.

100 hp. 13 second 0-60.

Not bad.

But I suppose if I had to to pick a more 'unaffordable' option as first muscle car, it would probably be the Dusenberg SSJ.

Although perhaps it was more like...the first super car...a lamborghini of its day?

The most powerful version was supercharged and had 400 HP. Enough to zoom from 0 to 60 in 7.8 seconds. Not bad for 1935.

Only 2 were built. The Model J was a good fill in for it, though...

The brothers Duesenberg got their start here in Des Moines - I believe their original factory building is now apartments/condos downtown, though I may be confusing that with another manufacturer from the same era. Great cars.

I had a toyota hatch which I sorely miss in my native country, its CVT wasn't half bad, it wasn't that sporty but it was reliable, now I have some shitty ford SUV, my local market sucks. I hope the chinese get a big enough lobby that forces Stellantis to actually come out with good products and the japs to lower their prices.
Anyways, for a two car solution I'd pick:

with some upgrades, preferably an engine swap to either a 1KZ/D or go crazy and put an OM606, install some carplay/nav thingy and call it a day. (It's a Toyota LandCruiser II J78G, though I'd also consider a LC80/100 or a Prado90). I'd also consider a range rover classic with similar upgrades, although it may need more work because brit cars aren't known for reliability.

And for the city:

Woah. You have good taste!

I have a 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4XE, myself. Somewhat similar to the Land Cruiser in terms of form and function. 4XE is of course an electric hybrid. Still offroad tho.

I have a 2011 Toyota Avalon, because it is comfortable and I am old.

Mine is white, and requires frequent car washes as a result.

It's the most comfortable road trip car I've ever driven - I did fourteen hours (including stops, so more like ten-eleven actually driving) in one go on a trip last year, and easily could have done another six without issue. Even my father is impressed at the ride quality.

Also, largely invisible to cops while having enough get up and go (268HP) to pass on the freeway with ease.

Its pretty nice, and it really does look comfortable!

Now all you have to do is install a high pressure turbo and some better tires. 😈

You'll become a drag strip legend over night. They'll call you 'The Sleeper' .

They will all fear you!

You'll show up at the strip like:

Fuck it, guess I'll contribute.

Feel like this is dying thing, racing. Cars are more expensive and harder to work on. More electronics and plastics makes it way harder to maintain for the average do-it-yourselfer. And because of noise restrictions, I don't think there are fewer places you can race. It's a rich man's hobby.

That might change if enough electrical vehicles get junked and become more affordable. Until then, it's only for those you can afford to crash, hence only people with 30-year-old money pits with fewer junkyard parts every year (technical knowledge) or people with means (money).

It's like hunting. Both really poor and rural people do it out of necessity, or very wealthy people can do it. No in between. I feel bad for any 10 years old reading MF Ghost or Intial D right now.

Look up Togue if you are interested in this stuff.

There are some supercharged versions of the same engine - Toyota put one in the Aurion (a limited market Camry variant) that was 323 HP, and Lotus uses several versions (a couple of which are 400 HP or better). That would be a feasible swap.

Given the state of the roads around here, I don't think I want any lower profile tires, unfortunately - potholes are a fact of life, so a higher profile tire saves a lot of grief.
