Long weekend too, so I get to try and sleep in on Monday too.

Happy Victoria Day, which (after reading up on it) is no more weird than a couple of our US holidays. Enjoy the extra morning to sleep in.

We've got Memorial Day coming up next weekend, which has its roots in the custom of cleaning and decorating graves of veterans during and after the Civil War... for both sides. Cool, let's have a holiday that at least partly celebrates the folks who died defending the losing side in that conflict. And to celebrate it let's largely ignore the purpose of the holiday and grill some meat and have sales on cars instead.

Anyway, five day weekend coming up for me, which (because of 'summer Friday' shenanigans at work) I only had to use one day of vacation to get.

Most people don't actually care about the holiday itself and just use it as an excuse to get drunk and shoot off fireworks. I use to do this myself, but I don't really drink anymore and the price of fireworks just isn't worth the momentary fun.

I actually find it really stupid that we have a bunch of pointless holidays here, but we still don't recognize Remembrance Day/ Veterans Day as a national holiday.
