I'm going to break the taboo about talking casually about manga in this thread, did you know @Angry_Panda the reason why the current group is having so much trouble with the translation of Youjo Senki is because they're retranslating from LATAM Spanish?

It happens in some series actually, when a Spanish group is quite ahead and no one picks it up in English they decide to find someone to retranslate it to English, hoping to get more donations usually. The problem with retranslations is that the person doing it is not the same one, so even if someone proofreads it you can get sentences with different meanings, just like the phone game.

Yes, languages with many speakers, Chinese to English is quite usual in doujinshi. Other languages it happens are Korean, Indonesian, French and even Thai. At least when it happens in Spanish I can check it, sometimes the first translation is bad and I stop reading altogether.

In my experience, most of the translations on this site that are not from Japanese, made from English or Spanish.

In Eastern Europe, 90% of translations are from English, as it is the main language outside of Russian or Ukrainian for most people. So unless you are lucky enough to have a title you are interested in found by a "Japanist" (local slang for someone who knows Japanese language and culture/history well), you may not have a chance to read anything at all without translation from English.
