Especially when Chainsawman is the success it is precisely because it went against the grain and refused a lot of the tropes which make shonen such a bland, predictable genre.

I largely agree with you, but "shounen" isn't a genre, and is by far the most diverse demographic out of the main four or five.

It certainly isn't unrealistic, a lot of people just sort of meander through life.

Who the hell reads a manga about a fucking dumbass with chainsaws sticking outta his head searching for REALISM????

And fair enough, it being "realistic" doesn't make it "good". "Being engaging" is what would make it "good". @K_Takuya's problem is that he doesn't find all this engaging-- that said, as you noted, I also think that "character proactivity" as an abstracted concept is being put on too high a pedestal.

No you didn't. Believe me, what I said boils down to "The character has no motivation and it's boring". You tried to derail from that to this idea of "CSM is not linear therefore good".

And you know what. Yeah I do not see what you're saying, so do show me.

Anything that neatly follows its building blocks, going A to B to C without much deviation, is linear.

Which part of this manga do you think is NOT linear? Which part in this manga's storytelling that was not following the "A to B to C" as you say? Please I'm trying to understand your point here. So do help me out.

Rereading this chapter.. Man it's pretty harsh huh. Starting from the the dead crow it's like a speeding doom train. Not quite Firepunch levels of slap in your face, but it went in that direction.

I must say, idgaf about makima's nameless dogs. They didn't individualize or develop them as characters so they were always more like accessories and inanimate things.

You talk like fucking fluffy cute af dogs and power's cat need character development to us to feel bad about them burning alive

the flash-backs of the happy days of the dogs and the cat . this is a bad omen . the fate of the dogs and the cat looks very dark .

page 10 :
