They don't have to spend time together all the time just because you find it "cute." And the MC isn't a bad guy if he tells his childhood friend he wants to spend time with his crush alone. If anything he should tell her his feelings so she can help him. But obviously the story isn't going in that direction. Sadly.

Oh and he's very whiny. Because if he wasn't he'd do something to get closer to his crush in a more direct fashion than this indirect fashion but he's a kid I'm not shocked at all.

Yeah, this is like 12 year old kids. I can understand people if they'd been high schoolers, but these kids are way too innocent to get frustrated with imho.

I don't think a relationship between a couple of 12 year olds are going to last that long though. They're mostly just trying it out for fun at that age.
To be honest, I think that people these days are trying out relationships for fun until they're thirty.

Well he didn't tell her shit so yes, not telling a friend you don't want to hang out with them and then abandoning them when they briefly go away (despite them explicitely telling you they are just going to grab something and will be back soon to hang out with you) is 100% a piece of shit move.
