real talk - actually a huge fan of him pulling her aside for a moment and checking in whether it would be better/more comfortable for her if they left.
It shows how much he actually cares about her, to not want to impose where it would make things difficult. Yes, she turns it around and goes all-out for him, but while it's, like, baseline thoughtfulness that one should have for their partner/significant other/childhood-friend-with-borked-distance, the fact remains the author put it in and I respect the hell out of them for it.
