Well, to me the likely option is that Otome actually does have some sort of attachment to Kazura. But the feelings became twisted, she doesnt want to actually admit or commit to being a lesbian but she also got super possessive of Kazura.

Same verse, different song when a relationship becomes toxic like this in manga.

So otome is in love with kazura or at the very least possessive of her and knows kazura loves her but instead of reciprocating she instead chooses to play perpetual mind games with her. I've seen a lot of the toxic yuri tropes but this is definitely one for the books.

I guess the other possibility here is that Kazura was actually popular with guys but not girls and Otome wanted to look good by being close to her. IDK if that makes sense but Otome spending so little time with her in the present is odd if she had feelings for Kazura. Excited to keep reading this series!
