For an isekai slop this series does manage to make me laugh every chapter so far, so there's that. Yes readers, the Ahegao was absolutely necessary :pepela:
probably a problem with ratios? compressing a fuckton of dirt to the point it's hard as steel doesn't really change the material, you're just using magic as some kind of ultra-powerful hydraulic press. turning sand into glass makes sense due to the sheer amount of silica etc., but turning mud and topsoil into perfectly transparent glass requires a much more drastic change with more steps in-between & this dumbass of an mc is clearly just trying to use magic to skip directly from A to C without even trying to, like... dry it and turn it to sand first or whatever that'd be more plausible. like using magic to transform a bunch of live silkworms directly into a shirt without letting them make cocoons first, you know?

Would actually be interesting if the MC tried combining fire magic and earth magic together to make bullet proof glass or Obsidian or something and that would actually be allowed, but I think you're right that it might simply be an easy limiter on his powers and not that deep.

"You can't make bulletproof glass out of earth."

Which fucking element is it made of, then? Air?

what was the fire and ice-> ultimate anihilation spell reference? It sounds familiar
Medoroa, a spell that is the fusion of both mera and hyado, from the manga Dai no Daibouken. It's pretty much a disintegration beam.

IMO maybe not straight out of pure earth. He should’ve tried to melt sand to make glass but eh, i’m not sure if all those INT stats really helped to make his thinking smarter.

So I actually looked up how to make bulletproof glass. Apparently you need to bond together glass sheets with polyurethane which I guess wouldn't classify as earth magic if considering the classic four base elements. Maybe use a mix of plant oils and a combination of fire magic and earth magic for reaction and compression to make the plastic sheets?

At that point, you're pretty much just making up a headcanon to fill in a flaw in the storytelling.

It's the author's job to make the story make sense, not yours.

To be fair, the point of that scene isn't to talk about bulletproof glass. The point was to showcase that magic has limits, and if MC pushes those limits too far, he'll get in major trouble. To that end, the scene does its job.

The author just so happened to pick an imperfect way to go about setting that scene up.

Polyurethane is just one type of plastic that can be used. So long as the plastic in question is a transparent thermoplastic that will adhere to glass once cooled, it can work for the process.

Thermoplastics are usually polycarbonates, which are made from petroleum. AKA: rock oil.

Converting petroleum into plastic is a chemical process, using chemicals that are virtually always sourced from minerals.

Every part of bulletproof glass is made from earth.

Playing devil's advocate here since I agree with most of what you said, but seeing as other random but complex magics have been introduced since this chapter, the "earth magic" may refer specifically to manipulating existing "inorganic" matter. Manipulating organic matter such as petroleum may need "plant magic" or something similar.

I suppose that's possible, but I would personally be annoyed if they did that.

Per the classical alchemic definitions of the four elements, petroleum is defined as earth-aligned. Its name literally means "rock oil."

Wouldn't make or break the story, but it would be a, "now you're just making shit up," moment IMO.

Technically speaking, I think it's the process that violates the laws. If he separated the elements properly, it might have been possible. I think Noriko helped him in that regard.

Bullet proof glass would probably need earth and water magic, I think. Besides fire, he hasn't been shown to conjure anything out of nothing. It always looks like an extraction process.

"You can't..."

Yes you can??? Bulletproof glass exists?

Was thinking the same thing lmao, how is making bulletproof glass “going against causality” when this other world should also have the same resources used to make it on Earth?
The way i understand it it's more a matter of jurisdiction

Making glass is not forbidden, the goddess did it for him
Making glass with purely earth magic is, as that extent of manipulating the soil isn't covered in whatever definition is for earth magic.

It's like trying to bruteforce a computer into chopping woods: It just can't, no matter how smart its internal structure is or how many component it has. That's just not what a computer is made for, it doesn't have functions to do that.

If you connected a machine to the computer then there's nothing odd about the computer commanding the machine to do it
